The Winter Olympics started in 1925 in Chamonix, France. The events at the first Olympics included: Bobsledding, curling, ice hockey, military patrol, figure skating, speed skating, nordic skiing, cross country skiing, nordic combined, and ski jumping. Since then the games have grown to include 98 events. Historically, Scandinavian countries (Russia, Germany, Norway, Sweden) have dominated the traditional winter events, but recently new countries like South Korea and Australia have been making a place for themselves in the games.
